Leo and the Shy Firefly
Summary

Reading time ~ approx. 3 min

Leo the lion cub meets a shy firefly named Lucy who’s afraid to fly because she might be laughed at. With Leo’s encouragement, Lucy practices and learns to fly confidently, lighting up the meadow. She realizes that believing in herself allows her to shine brightly for all to see.

One warm summer night, a curious little lion cub named Leo wandered into the meadow. He loved to explore, but tonight, something caught his eye—a tiny, flickering light dancing in the grass.

“Hello? Who’s there?” Leo called softly.

Out from behind a flower peeked a shy little firefly named Lucy. “I’m Lucy,” she said in a tiny voice. “I glow, but I’m not very good at flying, so I hide.”

Leo tilted his head. “Why hide? Your glow is amazing! Show everyone!”

Lucy shook her head. “What if they laugh at me for being clumsy?”

Leo thought for a moment. Then he had an idea. “Come with me, Lucy. Let’s practice flying together.”

At first, Lucy wobbled and stumbled as her glow blinked on and off. But Leo cheered her on. “You’re doing great! Keep trying!” he said.

After a while, Lucy’s flying got steadier and her glow grew brighter. Soon, she was zipping through the air, lighting up the whole meadow like a tiny star.

“Wow, Lucy! You’re amazing!” Leo said, clapping his paws.

Lucy giggled. “Thank you, Leo. I didn’t know I could do it until you believed in me.”

From that night on, Lucy never hid her glow again. She flew proudly through the meadow, shining her light for everyone to see.
