Short bedtime story

Summary
Reading time ~ approx. 3 min
Emma and Jake lose their kite when a gust of wind carries it into a tall tree, leaving them worried and upset. A kind stranger helps retrieve the kite, teaching the siblings the value of helping others. Inspired, Jake decides he wants to spread kindness too.
It was a sunny afternoon, and Emma and her younger brother, Jake, were playing in the park. Emma had brought her bright red kite, which soared high in the sky like a bird.
“Let me fly it!” Jake begged, jumping up and down.
Emma hesitated. Jake was still little, and she wasn’t sure he could handle the string. But she handed it to him anyway. “Be careful!” she warned.
Jake took the string and grinned as the kite danced higher and higher. But then a strong gust of wind tugged the string out of his hands. “Oh no!” Jake cried as the kite floated away.
The siblings ran after it, but the kite flew further and further, finally landing on the top of a tall tree. Jake’s eyes filled with tears. “I’m sorry, Emma. I didn’t mean to lose it.”
Emma sighed but put her arm around Jake. “It’s okay. It was an accident.”
Just then, a kind-looking man who had been walking his dog came over. “Need some help?” he asked with a smile.
Emma hesitated. “Our kite got stuck in the tree, but it’s too high.”
The man nodded and looked at the tree thoughtfully. Then, using a long stick he found nearby, he carefully nudged the kite free. It floated down, landing softly on the grass.
“Thank you so much!” Jake exclaimed.
“You’re welcome,” the man said. “It’s always good to help when you can.” He waved goodbye and walked off with his dog.
As they headed home, Jake said, “That man was so nice! I want to help people like that someday.”
Emma smiled. “That’s a good idea, Jake. Even small acts of kindness can make a big difference.”
